Amateur Lunar Astrophotography Competition 2025

Astrophile Education Services, New Delhi in collaboration with Nehru Planetarium, Prime Minister’s Museum and Library is organising an astrophotography competition for Amateur Astronomers in India to share their fantastic and creative work while participating in the competition.

Here are the details you need to know:

  • Competition start date: July 07, 2025
  • Submission begins: July 07, 2025.
  • Submission ends: August 20, 2025.
  • Results Announced: September 07, 2025.

Competition finalists will have their best images showcased at exhibitions digitally and online at different venues.

The Rules:

  1. General Criteria:
    1. The competition will be open for all “Indian citizens” residing in India.
    2. The competition is open only for individuals.
    3. The photograph shall be taken within the Last 2 years, i.e., Since July 01, 2023
    4. The image shall not have been shared on any social media platforms for the sake of anonymity of the participants and impartial judgement.
    5. You shall have the ownership of the images submitted to the competition. For shared ownerships, the participation will be in any one of the author’s name.
    6. The images submitted shall have original Unprocessed image ready to share in case a demand is placed.
  2. Submission Criteria:
    1. All eligible participants can submit up to three images in the competition.
    2. The images have to be in JPEG format.
    3. The images have to be 1920 px on the longer side and corresponding dimensions on the other side.
    4. There shall be no watermark on the images.
    5. The image file shall only have a title.
    6. The image file shall correspond with a text/notepad file describing the essence of image in not more than 200 words for each image. The format shall be:
      1. Title of the image.
      2. Description of the image (less than 200 words).
      3. Time, date and venue of the image taken.
      4. Equipment used.
      5. Credit line to go with the images.
    7. Submission will attract a fee of INR 299/- per participation which includes up to 3 images.
  3. Selection Criteria:
    1. Any image not taken inside the date range will be eliminated.
    2. The image shall follow the submission criteria.
    3. Plagiarism is strictly prohibited. If found to be sharing someone else’s work, you will be disqualified.
    4. The images will be judged by industry experts with ample experience in the field. The judges will evaluate the images as per the set parameters:
      1. Aesthetics
      2. Framing
      3. Location
      4. Concept
  4. Other rules:
    1. The participant submitting images will also give us the approval and share the rights to use the images in capacities defined below by the Nehru Planetarium, Arun And Sons Innovations and its subsidiaries with due credit to the author as submitted with the image for a period up to THREE years.
      1. For digital marketing and advertisements
      2. On websites, social media platforms
      3. For educational purposes
      4. For print marketing and advertisement
      5. Showcasing in exhibitions in future.
